Unexpected! Black horse.
Well done.
The director said he received lots of discouragement when making this film. They are totally new to the people there. Most in the audience gave the look they are surprised.
This year the award show is worth the watch. This year 50th Golden Horse, they gathered all the winners for the best actors and actresses on stage.
Best Actor: From Taiwan
Best Actress: Zhang Zhi Yi

Shu Qi looked very good in the very low V gown on red carpet. Suits her very well.
Well done! :D
The most heartening thing about the four Golden Horse Awards wins chalked up by Ilo Ilo tonight - including the top award of Best Feature Film - is that the film could not be more Singaporean.
Its maker was born and raised here, and its story of a family in a small flat coping with a new foreign domestic helper is as local as the Housing Board. And it was made with a Singapore-sized (read:small) budget.
Coming after Ilo Ilo's win of the Camera d'Or win for Best First Film at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, it has put both writer-director Anthony Chen and his drama in the Singapore history books as the country's most internationally-lauded auteur and film, two products of Singapore pitted against the best in the world, and winning.
Chen likes to call Ilo Ilo, a drama about a Singapore family struggling to adapt to their new domestic helper in the midst of the 1998 economic slump, his "little film".

Chen likes to call Ilo Ilo, a drama about a Singapore family struggling to adapt to their new domestic helper in the midst of the 1998 economic slump, his "little film".
This "little film", shot around Jurong and other housing estates on a budget of $500,000, is not just an award winner. It is also doing tidy business at box offices overseas, especially in film-mad France.
The film's modest financial gains, when seen against its plaudits for artistic achievement, point to several interesting new trends in Singapore cinema.
First, while the film might be partly funded by the Singapore Film Commission and Ngee Ann Polytechnic and feature the vision of a Singaporean film-maker, it is, under the surface, an international work.
It features two foreign-born leads - a Malaysian-born actress (Yeo Yann Yann, winner of Best Supporting Actress award at the Golden Horse) and Filipino actress Angela Bayani.
The director of photography, Benoit Soler, is a Frenchman.
The film's languages switch from English to Mandarin to Cantonese to Tagalog, and its main theme - about how an average family adapts to life with a foreign domestic helper - is one that people in Taiwan (where many households employ Filipino helpers) and France can identify with.
More telling is what it does not have. It relies very little on factors that local films employ for marketability in Singapore.
It does not feature cute young actors. There is no romantic angle, slapstick humour, horror elements or computer- added special effects. It lacks stock characters that rely on familiarity with local television or local institutions.
These traits that sell a movie in this country and, increasingly, Malaysia, have the reverse effect on overseas box-office takings.
Ilo Ilo made just under a million at the Singapore box office, a far cry from the over $6 million that each of the two Ah Boys To Men army comedy films made this year and last year.
But these works, and the other horror and romantic comedy films that form the bulk of local output, do not travel well.
What's also troubling is that Ilo Ilo is not some esoteric arthouse production. It was aimed squarely at the middle.
As Chen himself said as he took the trophy for Best Original Screenplay on Saturday night: "The commercial movie people told me it wouldn't sell. The arthouse people said that no film festival will want it."
So while we might all celebrate the Singapore movie that has gone further than any before it, the film is also a signal. It shows that the gap between what Singaporeans want to see, and what wins audiences and awards overseas, remains stubbornly wide.
I think the road for Anthony would be much tougher, since he set the bar sooooo high, people would expect his next production will be at least on par with this level...
He's gonna get lotsa and lotsa of stress...
he said he wun be doing a local film next
will be overseas, using overseas cast
and in english
Geez, abit mixed feeling about that...
Of coz got foreign exposure is good and all, but it feels abit like after he became famous, he left us behind -__-
he shd just retire at his peak
let someone else do the job and 更上一层楼
Actually yeah, but problem is most ppl dunno whether is at peak anot...
Just like Gambling... U also dunno when you should stop...
Some people think they can earn more and continue, some stop and claim the winnings...
i think he should ride on his fame and do some good commercial films
make some bucks for himself
commercial films oso can be meaningful anyway
yah
like Jiale grow up liao, going into army. make frens with Lobang King
then Terry carry bag for him.
guest-starring Leticia as Terry's 乡
I don't think he should retire just yet, I love him!
Aim for blockbuster movies.
That's where the moolah is.
I wonder how Jack Neo feel about his winning. Jack Neo's movies nominated for Golden Horse two or three times wins nothing.
Think he has overseas people investing in his next film. Probably seeing the potential in him people don't mind invest in the next film.
Jack Neo on why he didn't follow his dream of filming artistic film like Ilo Ilo
different ppl different markets
What about Home Run?
sometimes is really luck
everything else being the same
all also talented
all also meaningful story
but oni 1 win
UPDATE (Dec 2): Ilo Ilo has officially crossed the S$1 million mark in local box offices, raking in a staggering S$1,024,842 as of yesterday. The film has also passed the NT$1 million mark in Taiwan with many sold-out sessions over the weekend.
UPDATE (Nov 29): It's only been less than a week since their glorious victories at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards, but awards fever has far from died down for Ilo Ilo. The local film has been nominated in four major categories at the upcoming 56th Asia Pacific Film Festival, which will be held from December 13 to 15 at the Venetian Macao.
The categories it received nods in are: Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actress for Angeli Bayani (her first nomination!) and Best Supporting Actress for Yeo Yann Yann. Its nomination for Best Picture marks the second time Ilo Ilo goes up against Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster, which it beat at the Golden Horse Awards.
Among the contenders Angeli will face in the fight for Best Actress include Zhang Ziyi (for The Grandmaster) and Yang Zishan (for So Young), while Yann Yann is pitted against the likes of Tilda Swinton (for Snowpiercer) and Crystal Lee (for Unbeatable).
Director Anthony Chen, who is currently recovering from sickness in Tokyo and will be jetting off to the Philippines next, said he only found out about the nominations when the media alerted him. Good luck for the ceremony, all!
Next , they will be competing in the APFF in Macua this month.
