SINGAPORE: It’s not a joke.
Popular news parody show “The Noose” will return for a seventh season on April Fools’ Day.
It will see the return of Singapore actress-director Michelle Chong to the show, which pokes fun at various aspects of life in Singapore.
“I’m excited to let the audience see some fresh material!
“This time, my involvement will be a bit bigger. I’ll be writing more for ‘The Noose’,” said Chong.
Despite being away from the show for some time, Chong said her chemistry with the rest of the cast “never really goes away”, as they often get to work with one another outside the series.
“It doesn’t feel like I even left at all,” said Chong.
The actress went on to reveal that she will be bringing back all her iconic characters like news presenter Adriana Wow, the bubbly Barbarella - whom she joked will have an ang moh(Caucasian) boyfriend “always and forever” - as well as the Chinese KTV hostess Lulu, in this season of “The Noose”.
Chong said audiences will be seeing a lot more of Lulu on the show this time around, and added that the Lulu will even be getting her very own movie next year, which she will both direct and star in.
“It’s a mockumentary. So it’s something very different from the usual local movies.
“She’ll be travelling … and having cultural exchanges with people from places other than Singapore,” said Chong enthusiastically.
Wait, wasn’t she thinking about shooting a Barbarella movie?
“Shooting a film about Barbarella was the original idea two years ago, but I think times have changed and perhaps Lulu is more relevant in today’s society,” explained Chong.
“The presence of the Chinese in Singapore makes it more relevant, so people would want to watch it (the movie).”
Apart from Lulu, many of the zany characters from past seasons of “The Noose” will be coming back, such as the pole-dancing correspondent Pornsak Sukhumbit (Chua Enlai) and music-loving reporter Jojo Joget (Suhaimi Yusof).
There will also be a new addition to the cast in the form of theatre actress Siti Khalijah, who will play a young Malay girl that speaks like an American, as well as a host of other interesting characters on the show.
The debut episode of season seven of the “The Noose” will air on April 1, 8.30pm on Channel 5.
