SINGAPORE: A
Happiness Poll of nearly 6,000 people by labour movement NTUC's family
development unit, U Family showed that 6 in 10 are happy.
And of this group, most were married, women or held part-time jobs.
Six in 10 respondents said they are happier after getting married.
The number is bumped up to about 8 in 10 who said they are happier after becoming parents.
But the survey also found gaping holes in worklife balance.
Only about 3 in 10 said their employers are supportive of Flexible Work Arrangements.
While only about 4 in 10 said they have colleagues who will be supportive if there's a need.
About half said they spend insufficient time with their families.
While only about 1 in 5 said they actually have time for themselves after fulfilling their commitments.
On what will make them happier, about 3 in 10 respondents said they need financial stability and worklife balance.
The NTUC said moving forward, it will engage various stakeholders to promote worklife balance.
For
example, it will discuss with the government on introducing childcare
leave for single, unmarried parents and get companies to set up action
plans to support worklife harmony.
The survey was conducted in November last year.
