haha, argument between a evolutionist and a creationist in poem form. Found it on USENET years ago, might be relevant. The different parts are marked. The indented parts are the original post.
| Please explain to a fool such as I
| If while we are living we're destined to die
| And after we die we'll be living no more
| Then what, pray tell was the in-between for?
|
| Why did we come to exist on this earth
| If death is the only answer to birth?
| In the words of the bard, if we're destined to fall
| Doesn't death make a mockery of us all?
|
| What's the POINT? I must ask you
| What's the point to this "life"
| What's the point in existing
| If we cannot survive?
|
| If I'm destined to die
| then *poof* disappear
| Then "life" has no meaning
| So why are we here?
Life itself is the meaning of life
It's not about your joy or strife
Nature doesn't care about your name or face
You're a replaceable part of the human race.
Our biological purpose: survive and mate
If one person dies, the loss isn't great
But this isn't what you want to hear
You want to feel special, unique and dear.
This feeling, too, is a natural desire
You're more likely to fight or run from a fire
To save your own life, if you feel unique
It's just a natural survival technique.
You want PERSONAL purpose, am I right?
Guess what, you have none! What a delight!
Instead of a common fixed religious destiny
You can define your own personal journey!
| But the Christian says
| life really has no ending
| and that death is really
| just another beginning.
|
| yes, they claim that after we die
| There is more
| And an answer to What we are
| livening here for.
|
| I would like to believe that the latter is true
| And the science of regeneration's not new
| so our "soul energy" that we had while alive
| becomes free to expand and continue to thrive.
|
| In it's new state the soul then would be free of time
| and the laws of it's last state no longer would rime
| then steps in the creator, and measures it's growth
| divides good from evil, then throws away both
What is a "soul"? Where is it located?
What is it made of? Is it automated,
or can you control it? How was it discovered?
Has these questions ever been considered?
How can a thing be free of time, or free
of the laws of reality?
What's wrong with time or the laws you named?
Why escape them, are you depressed or ashamed?
| and asks it one question to which it can't lie
| did I buy you with my life, when I came down and died.
| If the soul knows the truth, and says "Yes, It's true"
| Then the soul gets to enter into some place so new
|
| If the soul says "No way, I don't know what you mean"
| Then the soul goes back down To kick and to scream
| And maybe this hell, that we speak of so much
| Is to, quite simply, live without God's caring touch
You said the soul would be free of time,
yet time is implicit in your rhyme.
FIRST the question, THEN the answer to which it can't lie
NEXT comes the judgement by God in the sky.
You said the soul would be free of those laws
Yet those laws are implicit above, like cause
and effect, places where a free soul can't go.
The idea is cute, but not parsing, amigo.
| Maybe hell is just not being able to be
| With a God that offers Eternity.
| Maybe here is where we must go, if we fail
| Maybe life is just a phase into hell.
|
| If that's so then I'm reaching for far grander things
| I, for one, want to know ALL of Gods mysteries
| Life's okay, but I'll tell you, as if you might care
| It's okay, but I really wouldn't want to live here.
|
| Not forever, at least, since it seems to involve
| allot of sorrow, and not very much love
| If heaven is what the bible says it is
| Well I'll see ya'll later, cause I'm all for this
If, when you were young, your father said:
"If you wash my car, I'll pay you for it"
Would you do it? You might, for money or love
It would be your choice, and not so tough.
But if daddy added: "If you don't wash the car,
I'll catch you and beat you with a crowbar"
Would you call it love? Would you think it fair?
Would you still wash his car, and do it with care?
Why does evil exist? It's my "free will" you say?
I have free will, yet I can't read minds, aye?
I can't breathe underwater, or lift a 10 ton anvil
So why won't I have free will if I can't do evil?
God made evil, or won't/can't remove it
Therefore I would like to posit,
That god is evil, or impotent, or
he doesn't exist, which is what I vote for.
| These are just speculations, not true but not false
| but if you think, either way, they must give you pause
| yes they must make you think, "what if this is true"
| what you do with this thought, I leave up to you.
"What if this is true" is called Pascal's wager
It's nonsense, and if you use it you are in danger
of being laughed at, or insulted, as I will now do
Hahaha, you stupid bloody idiot and **** you.
