SINGAPORE ARMY - Is it wise to sign on?

sia lah, not easy to climb up in SAF to LTC or colonel unless u some kinda of president scholar or got master degrees.
My S3 ( major ) drive rover hit tank kenna gan jia lat jia lat by his superior ( Col ).
He noe for sure henta-kaki. So neva continue contract. Signed on for more than 10 years now break. Wasted man, he is a high flyer, can reach colonel eventually one.
If u wanna sign on, must be damn careful, try not to hit tanks when drivin and must pia for OCS during BMT, cannot get into OCS better dun sign on. And the SAF also got see whether the batch of intake is A level batch or poly batch. Usually A level batch got more pple going OCS one.
If u sign on as specialist or sergent. At the most U become master warrant offcier when u are 45 years
haha..... 45 yrs old still have to call 20yrs old LTA ( leuitantant ) "Sir!" Wah lau might as well die....
got one fren the very day he pass out from OCS, he bo chup the Warrant Officer. The Warrant Officer tried to knock him down. But my fren refuse coz he now got chocolate bar on his shoulder, big fuck liaos.
Air force also not easy, very selective one. Alot of pple went for it, my fren also, in the end cannot pass the test, kenna chop sent back to S'pore. Now become vehicle commander....
Finally....

but fuck, just received my reservist slip.
my Singaporean brudders, c u all during reservist.
haha....there's no escape unless u die, downgrade or forsake your pink IC and become Malaysian, Indonesian, Australian or Canadian. -

Big organisations all suck. But we do learn from them, don't we?
After all SAF is so big, admin lapse is unavoidable. Furthermore, most of the active ppl are NSFs who just blurblur come out of studies trying to run the show. Who you wanna blame? Blame SAF for wat? We are running the show? If anyone wanna blame also blame the little population we have. But our SAF is not bad liao la. At least got some credibility (which foreigners know but we dun... hahaha). If we go other countries and experience also see they got plenty of lapses...much worse than us. So serve it. Complain as much la.. after all you still LANLAN serve 2.5 years. PPL give u so much money liao can complain less lah huh? And life also constantly improving in NS. If all young men all dun like NS and refuses to do NSF to the extent all of us kanna DB, nobody to help out in defense, then wanna make ppl think we are good also cannot. At least ppl think we are good now. -
I guess in that case, you'd have to get women to do NS too. Lately, like the previous poster has mentioned, men have become all gu-niang. Women nowadays, if you observe their behavior are very into the male trend. They smoke, they ride bikes, they curse and swear, they have short hair, yada, yada, yada...
What I'm saying is, if NS is so important to the country, the women should play a part in it too shouldn't they? After all, it is also their country! Forget cooking (which they can't seem to do nowadays anyway), forget cleaning (which they get maids to do), forget taking care of babies (again the maids do this), look towards NS for women...duty, honor, country! -
haha.....ya rite. I rather women not serve the country, its safer that way.

My 2 cents worth :
Go into NS first. During BMT, see how screwed up the SAF is. Despite all the grand talk about ideals, pride and all, the people running the show are more concerned for their personal gain and promotion.
Though its an iron rice bowl, not everybody can take the life. Think first, then think again... then tear the contract into 2 pieces.

I totally agree with that, before i went in the Army. I thought this is great, idealistic , pride and all the stuff. But after i am in it. IT"S TOTALLY different, all that is in the toilet bowl..
Nobody have that Grand Passion or idealism you see in the T.v commerical. IT's all about the $$$ and how fast you climb.
Never, Never, Never, Never Sign on For money.I could'nt stress enough. If you do that, yes.. you will have slightly more cash. But you loose another a more valueable item that perhaps cost even more money to break to get, that is FREEDOM.

anw, my ans to the topic qs.. dun sign on.. seriously i tink its juz fcuked up.. u wun b any richer by the time u ORDed after signing on.. mite as well Serve And Fcuk off then find a job after NS. more freedom though the starting pay not that good.. -
i think the SAF really portray its image very well to the public and that Singaporean can really sleep well knowing that the sky, land and sea is well protected. Ask any regular who serve the organisation before or still in-service, less those officers( all talk no action) and they think otherwise.This system is been established since S'pore become and not a single man can change it..Screw those God wannabe and pity those native minds.

Ask yourself first, do you get sick of doing the same things over and over again for 10 years?
Listen to same old commands over and over again for 10 years? (Similar to your parents nagging)
Do you want to be in a position when you are angry and yet you can do nothing about it? (worst, do that for 10 years...)
If you say yes. Then congrats.....you have a very "bright" future with the SAF.
If no, welcome back to earth.
Seriously, other than the $$$$, I really don't see any good reasons that I might sign on with the SAF.
But it's just me.....

$$$ Yes that's a BIG factor for many who signed on. But more importantly is whether you have the interest in being part of SAF. The $$$ are just incentives.
In my opinion, diploma holders should go for specialists. They will be the high flyers of the NCOs. If they sign on as officers instead, they will most probably be farmers... A sad thing but thats the fact. There are already so many LSA holders taking up key appts. A diploma holder will have to really perform outstandingly.
I've seen many junior dip officers performing well but becos they r dip holders, they cant progress faster than a degree holder. Its the same...A LSA holder will NEVER fly past a SAFOS. Thats how the system works.

-pay enough for you to survive n raise a family
cons: -dull life - spend most of your time in the army
-bear with the unreasonable officers
-if make mistakes, easy to get extras, worst case kanna DB
-becoming an warrant officers at ard the age of 30 yet pay
-lose out to the officers in great difference.
-policies changes n u have no say in it.
-They give you 30 days annual medical leave but if u taken
more than 10 days, u kanna 'marked'.
-no freedom
-if get condemn, forget about your promotions, can stay at
your current rank for 'donkey' years.
and the list still goes on.......
its all depends whether your direct superior is good or not but again theres more 'black sheep' than the good ones!
if you have a choice, dun sign on!
I'm a regular in the army and can't wait to get out of the organisation!

I've successfully passed my interview with the navy and will be signing contract with them on march. what i heard is that dip holders better stay to specialist as we will progress fastest here. however, i'll try to work hard to enter to ocs so that i can disrupt for my studies, which specialist dun have that kinda benefit.

by the way, if u r going to OCS as a spec, it would be damn HARD n if you cannot pass OCS course, u will be struck in the specs corp for the rest of your contract there.... Life in the armed forces doesn't seems to be anything like the advertisement they show on the TV. They only trying to cheat u into signing onli...
To make a point clear, u can disrupt for further studies as a specialist by taking no-pay leave. But the SAF doesn't recognise anything except the cert from local poly and they will not consider local degree as a qualification when u r a spec n you will lose quite alot of ur education allowance. 
As an Officer, I'm not too sure whether they accept the Degree from Overseas U or the Local U, U better check with the CMPB. But think of it, even if you check with them, the policy might change a few yrs ltr.... Look at ur contract properly lorz... dun kanna cheated. Dun believe everything they say, try asking ur frens who r already in there, then decide.
It's better if u go through NS and then decide if u wanna to sign on n live tat kind of lifestyle
