A few weeks ago I had this dinner at the home of a couple, both had been in America for 8 years before deciding to settle down in Singapore. They are still in the process of getting used to how we live here in Singapore, being that the expectations of them as employees are different to that in America. Here, if we leave the office at 7 or 8 p.m. people tend to give you this funny look. Back in America, empolyers respect the fact that employees have a life out of the office and that having a healthy family life is important to productivity in the office.
On this note, I cannot help but wonder what use is a baby bonus to us here in Singapore. Since the norm here in Singapore requires at least two working adults per household, who will take care of out off springs. I have friends who would leave their kids with parents, but is that the only option?
