Water quality is tops, so is more filtration needed?
I refer to the article, “Water quality here is world-class” (ST, Jan 26).
I would like the authorities to go further and explain in details just how good is world-class quality water, for example, the water impact on health, and the substances and chemicals (if any) found in our tap water.
In so doing, I hope to have conclusive proof that our tap water is safe for drinking straight from the tap without further filtration or purification.
This is to rebut claims by vendors of household water-filtration systems that water from household taps is “not clean enough” for consumption and requires after-market treatment. In addition, some systems also ionize water “for better health”.
No one should be prevented from making an honest living, but if pseudo-scientific claims are passed off as facts, consumers are at risk of being led into making frivolous purchases.
I hope the study done by the PUB panel of experts will shed light on the quality of tap water for consumption.

Do not buy the idea from MLM that water is not good enough from the tap and further filtration or treatment is needed. You are only going to spend unnecessarily. For me, the most is boil it to get hot water for making my cup of tea. -
our water contain chlorine.. this is what my science teacher teach me. drink chlorine over the years make our body become acidic and causes the growth of cancer cells. after boiling, the chlorine will react under heat to become 'duno what substance' that is many times more harmful than chlorine.

actually not true...but in comparison with other countries, ours is much cleaner..
actually participate in one water test of local water..erm shant tell u what happen in case u guys start boycotting the tap or PUB come after my arse..
i only know that there are many methods to make our water cleaner than it is now, one of which (purported to be the best) is the reverse osmosis method, which is used by NASA and Coke, and which will be used to produce Newater...
I guess even the Diamond Water can clean our water better than water coming out of tap... -

The problem is the pipes, the materials used for the pipe joints, the cleanliness of the pipes etc.

My father used to work for piping construction.
So don't try to tell me what good these pipes are. They need maintenance, they do. And we haven't do much maintenance to check on the cleanliness of our pipes for like many many years. -
I still remember there was an incident whereby the water supply of one whole Beauty World building was contaminated. All the residents and shop tenants were affected. Many residents suffered from diarrhoe and went to the same doctor, who later on made the report on the sudden increase of diarrhoe patients living in the same building.

Or we have to take health supplements to remove the chlorine accumulated within our body because we drink the tap water?

Let me reiterate my last point with key evidence.
Contaminated water from our pipes are not as harmful as what some people say, since spring water isn't any better.
It is only when corrosion takes place, where the copper oxides get diluted into water when consuming it becomes deadly.
I believe there are more scientists who calculated the likelihood of built-up stress caused to the kidneys by tap water versus alcohol.

Yes, I agree that the delivery pipes / water storage tanks etc do affect the quality of water from the taps (especially those high rise building (above 4storeys?) that uses storage tanks. The quality of water of new development can varies also (because the pipes still not fully flushes out and stabilize or whatever). As to the high cancer rate, they are better explanation. I believe he highest factor on the list affecting cancer rate is the level of stress experienced by the population, not the content of chlorine in the water.
PUB will reply? Not sure because the issue raised in ST Forums is very difficult to explain in layman terms. LOL.

If tap water is safe, why do people still need to boil before drinking?
Many parents don't allow children to drink direct from tap, even though TV and newspapers keep saying our water is safe.
Also, chlorine is supposed to kill germs and bacteria. If it can kill germs, I am sure it slowly can kill our cells too.
