Grammar has only a few sets of rules whereby (I presume) most of us comprehend. But why are there funny verbs like 'lame' and 'crap'? Where are all the 'gay' (old english)?Originally posted by the Bear:well, there was a time when the rules of English grammar was drilled and grilled into us...
then it stopped happening in schools...
i think you can blame the brainiacs running the MOE for it

Working in a tuition centre makes me realise children has no idea the defination of 'gay' when they only knew 'homonsexual' = 'gay'.....
And TCS is using American english on their english subtiles...and that caught my eyes, thinking, "No wonder our volume and standard of English had deteriorated...."
Sad to say, I fell under that catergory. I have only started reading as an interest recently....So before that, and during my teens years, i was either watching movies(American movies), and TCS shows, when I should have been watching Channel News Asia or listening to Class 95....~!Originally posted by the Bear:yes... however, stuff like Sesame Street was from the US...
lame, crap are words but different uses now..
crap has always been "dung".. however, in here, the forums, we refer to talking as 'crapping' because we're mostly 'talking shit'...
"gay" was a term used by the homosexual movement and it has become the term for homosexuality already
mostly, people in singapore have stopped reading.. as a hobby...
8 out of 10 say they cannot be bothered....
and, that, is one of main reasons, i would think...
most stopped, ironically by their own folks... who force them to study, unaware that through reading, they learn much better than being forced to read texts and do their assessment books
kids expressing themselves in pictures~! As in they are about 8 yrs old, but they need to draw pics just to get understood....sad....Originally posted by the Bear:what pictures?
anyway, street lingo has become real words... like "bling bling" has actually made it into the dictionary
oh well.. language will always evolve
