How to make a girl "fall in love"?

I know several girls who are head over heels in love with their partners. Even when their partners cheat on them, to the extend of having sex with another girl. Some cases the guy stopped treating them well and started using them like objects. I don't get it...what makes girls get so attached to a particular guy for years and years despite how poorly the guy treat them?
The question is: How does a guy go about making a girl fall so much in love with him?
I read somewhere that one trick is to be "cold"? Don't be desperately seeking the girl's attention. Instead, ignore her until she comes knocking. Some say this will make the girl "desperate for you" instead. True? What if some other guy comes along and snatch her away while u're trying to be cold?
What about being caring and attentive? Won't girls like guys who knows how to treat them special and pay extra attention to them also? But won't this conflict with the "cold method" described above? -

Many a times you have to find the 'right' person and you have to execute the right moves to bind her.

update: interesting article. but its more about marriage than courtship.
What abt courtship? izzit cause most woman, once they make up their mind to stick to a bf, will try to stick to him no matter what? i mean women interested in serious r/s...excluding those vixens who keep changing bf one. -
