I came across a list of Korean small arms exports to Singapore in the The UN Register of Conventional Arms. this is a voluntary database for UN members states to report their arms imports and exports to.
Curiously, Korea lists K-1a rifles/carbines, K-3 LMGs and K-4 grenade launchers as exports to Singapore in 2008/2009. However, Singapore does not list these weapons as imports. These are apparently not for re-export, as the Koreans reported the "Final importer state" as Singapore. Under the Singapore entry, we can see our imports/exports from/to and other countries, but these imports are not listed.
Anyone know what unit is utilizing these weapons? Numbers are relatively small, yet too large for evaluation purposes.
Background: The Register comprises seven categories of major conventional arms, namely, battle tanks, armored combat vehicles, large-calibre artillery systems, combat aircraft, attack helicopters, warships (including submarines) as well as missiles and missile-launchers. It has been in operation with effect from calendar year 1992. Thus far, a total of 170 Member States have reported to the Register one or more times. The Register captures the great bulk of the global arms trade in the categories of conventional weapons covered by it. ie Reporting is up to the member state. http://www.un.org/disarmament/convarms/Register/HTML/RegisterIndex.shtml
