It seems that this is not a right place to discuss movies...but i went to see the midnight screening of Stanley Kwan's Lan Yu...has anyone seen the show?
The show is really hyped-up...but i find it a little disappointing...the story could be more intense...a little...but it is definitely better than the cheesy bishonen lar. -
I watched the show yesterday at prince too. I find it very touching.... About how much a man can love another man. Though I think the storyline wise is rather ordinary, but its simple, yet it triggers our emotions. The actors were great, but like you said, there's not much climax. I think the censorship board cut out some scene from the show too. Overall, the editing, directing and acting of the two actors were great.

Well, yah...but from what some people who read the story...said there's a bit of difference from the movie...they probably did cut out some parts of the story.

The movie plot is rather ordinary and I just dislike the ending, why must the characters have a tragic ending? issit just to hype up the drama factor? But there are some parts of the movie which are rather touching, like the reunion of the two characters at the younger guy's place a few years later. And I also agree that Lan Yu is a lot more better than Bishonen.

Yup, I agree that its an ordinary storyline. But guess the direction of the movie is great. And its the simple storyline that touches our hearts... I love the part when Lan Yu said he can never sit by the window to wait for Handong... And the reunion part whereby Handong held Lanyu close to him. Really touching. Fordsolo, did you catch the movie at 12 also?

Yup...the movie could be better but nevertheless i am glad to have caught it...still a touching show...especially when they get reunited...reminds me of shi nian sheng si liang mang mang.
Do u tink the film should be screened for a commercially?
I guess...people who write homo stories usually let their characters end tragicallye...it's like a stereotype. -
Personally, I think it should be screened to public(RA), its rather conservative for the nation to ban the show just because its about homosexual and the government wants to promote family values and stuff... Its a pity for those who cannot make it for the time slot at the film fest. I'm sure there're many who wants to watch the show, but either they cannot make it that day or they can't get the tickets.

But how many people can accept the intimate scenes between 2 guys...i mean...tis film shows almost the bare-naked truth on gays...geez...the nudity and intimacy is really off the limits for r(a) even!

Personally, I think the film can be screened commercially as a R(A) film. Adult filmgoers have the right to choose and pay for what they want to watch, and most of them should be mature enough.
But even if the film is given the go-ahead to be screened, it will no doubt be heavily censored, esp the nudity and intimacy parts.
