local singing sensation stef will be starting her world tour from 23/03 till 30/09 dis yr. Venues for her concert include LA, Spore, KL,TW, China and HK. Juz wana check if anybody's going and why?

I dunno if i would go...but i will buy the cheapest tickets...i am not a big fan of hers...do u tink she can dance well in the 1st place? -
heh heh... that's the last thing (dancing) you would expect of her, but I'm sure her legions of adoring fans won't mind one single bit.
How many concerts will be staged in all? -
If not wrong, 10 concerts will be staged in all. Hmmm...... wondering just how many people will attend the one in LA...

You'll be surprised by the tons of Chinese living overseas. That's why many artistes (eg. Leon Lai, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok) always go overseas to perform, coz these overseas Chinese are starved for Chinese entertainment and will swarm to these concerts. That is the usual case for HK artistes, not sure if Taiwanese/Singapore artistes enjoy the same popularity. But I guess Stef's company will not take risks to stage her concert on foreign soils if they have no confidence of sell-out concerts in the first place. Heard the Singapore one is tentatively scheduled to take place in April...
A side comment : The "Start" album was touted to a compilation of YanZi's "personal faves", but she admitted recently that not all of the selections were what she actually wanted. She is more of an avid listener of English songs than Chinese (in her schooling days apparently), so she actually wanted to include some of her personal English faves, but the company rejected them based on the reason that those songs were not "popular" enough, eg. "Lightning Crashes". But at least "Silent All These Years" and "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" are really nice...
I guess if the album was to be totally selected by her, maybe 70% of the songs will be English... -
PS: I don't know what songs she can really dance to. Her supposed "dance" can be seen from her "Lv Guang" and "Venus" videos - just the hand actions and some feet tapping.
Can see that she is not the "dancing" kind, but perhaps she may surprise her fans during her concert? Still, I feel that she may stick more to playing the piano, which is a fave among most of her fans. -
Her songs are not bad lar...can go listen though...but i wun pay the most expensive tickets though...too many concerts this year...would like to see lee hom though.

went for her NTU concert and thought her live performance was great, esp. when yanzi sang unplugged... powerful vocals, much better than I expected. So after watching this mini concert, I've decided to go for her concert held on 27/04, and probably buying the most expensive tix...

Hey...now a singer got to double-up as a dancer, talk show host ,trapeze act(reference to the charity show stunts dat local artistes hv to do), cabaret act, composer, wat have you.. the list is endless..
Multi-tasking is the catchphrase of today..specialisation is passe..
I guess listeners are more demanding thesedays...

Look at the Chinese word for concert "yan chang hui" and it means "act" and "sing". What's the point of going to a concert to watch the singer sing only? Might as well listen to her cd in the comfort of your home... duh.

My mandarin is too terok to rebutt you..but yes you are right..it means to "act and sing".
When I attend a concert, I wish to hear the singer's live performance as opposed to audio recordings..If it is a rock act concert, to rockz on together..!
What the other antics that the artistes use to work up the crowd are bonus points.
By the way, going by the logic of your reasoning...when I ask my colleagues whether want to go 'chi fan' together..does it mean iterally that we can only 'eat rice' together?? I meant it to be "let's go for a meal together!!"

erm..sidetracked in the previous post..anyway..if stef has been practising her dancing..maybe there would be more to watch out in her upcoming concert.

Pardon me, but I think the term "yan chang hui" just means a (singing) concert.
The term "yan chang" is not to be split into two words as "act" and "sing" but rather as "yan yi" (express) and "ge chang" (sing). Hence, "yan chang" will mean "to sing expressively".
But how an artiste wants to "yan yi" his/her "ge chang" is up to him/her lor. Some may choose to perform stunts whilst singing (Jay playing basketball whilst singing), play piano whilst singing (YanZi's forte), "strip" whilst singing (Karen Mok's talented in this), tease a guy whilst singing (A*Mei's fave act)... -
I'm no expert in Mandarin, but your dissection of the word makes sense - sing expressively
But I dun think playing the piano while singing counts as 'singing expressively'- She aint no Elton John or Diana Krall i.e. got no stage presence. Karen and A*Mei have it.... they sure dun have to resort to "stripping" or "teasing" on stage. But the guys are not complaining for sure
I did read somewhere that Yanzi will surprise her fans with some nifty dancing at her concerts... good luck to her -
Yeah... i'll think i'll go. Never been to a concert before... usually go musicals.
Going to download all her songs, start practise singing them at home, then can sing to them...
not sure if got pple to go with me, 'cos of exams lor... lucky my exam ends that evening.
if u all know when they start ticket sales, can post here? i'll probably get mid-range price tickets...
